Fuel Tanker Explosion Claims 15 Lives In Enugu
At least 15 people were killed in a fuel tanker explosion on Saturday at Ugwu Onyeama, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The tragic incident, which occurred around 11:30 am, sent shockwaves across the community, leaving witnesses and residents in despair.
The explosion happened as a fuel-laden tanker was navigating the busy expressway. Witnesses described the blast as devastating, with flames engulfing vehicles in close proximity.
The fire was so intense that bystanders could not access the scene for immediate rescue. Victims, reportedly occupants of vehicles caught in the inferno, were burnt beyond recognition.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene but faced challenges due to the intensity of the fire. Efforts to recover the remains and assess the extent of damage are ongoing.
Tanker Explosion In Ibadan Claims Driver’s Life, Injures One
In other news, a tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded in Ibadan, killing its driver and injuring one other person.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Akinyinka, the explosion occurred after the tanker lost control and collided with two other trucks. The impact caused the tanker to somersault into a nearby pit, leading to a massive fire.
He said, “The incident happened around Fijabi House, Agbowo, Ojoo/Iwo Road Expressway.
“The agency received a distress call about the fire incident at exactly 2.45 a.m. through a telephone call.
“The service swiftly deployed personnel to the scene and curtailed the fire from spreading to the nearby residential area.
“On arrival, we met three trucks of 20-metre distance from one another involved in the fire incident.
“The driver was burnt to death while the motor boy was rescued alive and taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for treatment.”
