American billionaire, Bill Gates, has described divorcing his wife, Melinda, in 2021 as his greatest regret.

Naija News reports that Gates and Melinda first met in 1987 when she joined Microsoft as a product manager.

The duo married in Hawaii in 1994 and co-founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a nonprofit organization, in 2000.

The NGO was focused on tackling global poverty and disease, but Melinda resigned from the foundation in May 2024.

In an interview with The Times of London, Gate said the divorce from Melinda was a miserable thing for him and lamented over his inability to emulate his parents’ 45 years of marriage.

Asked if divorce was his only failure in life, Bill said: “You would have to put that at the top of the list. There are others but none that matter. The divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years. It’s a mistake I most regret.

“Melinda and I still see each other — we have three kids and two grandchildren, so there are family events. The kids are doing well. They have good values.”

Meanwhile, Bill Gates has declared support for the economic reforms and policies embarked upon by the administration of President Bola Tinubu in Nigeria.

He described the reforms as difficult but necessary steps needed by the country, adding that President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda is ambitious.

Gates noted that Nigerians are struggling, incomes have fallen, and prices have soared, with protests rocking some locations due to the reforms, but expressed hope that solutions are in the pipeline.
