EIdil-Fitr: FG Declares Friday, Monday As Public Holidays

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it is unshaken by the exit of the Omoluabi Progressives, a political group backed by former Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola.

Reacting to the announcement by the group, APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, in a statement issued in Osogbo on Monday, said the Omoluabi Progressives had already left the party in principle since 2022.

Naija News reports that Olabisi described the group’s announcement as redundant, noting that many of its members had already been expelled or suspended from the APC.

He said, “The preposterous announcement of the so-called Omoluabi Progressives to quit the APC is a good riddance to bad rubbish.

“In the first instance, the kernel of the statement by the dissidents’ group amounted to a confused pack of rudderless political actors.

“How would any rational human being who has been suspended or expelled announce his resignation to the whole world again? Is that not an example of superfluity?”

Olabisi alleged that members of the Omoluabi Progressives had been working against the APC’s interests long before their official departure.

“You cannot be saying you are in our party and be working against the interest of the same party. You are agents of the PDP in Osun State and you are still of service to the ruling party in the state,” he alleged.

He likened their actions to “the hand of Jacob but the voice of Esau,” insisting that the group’s exit was long anticipated.

The APC spokesperson warned that the group’s decision to leave the party marked the beginning of its political decline.

“Your recent announcement of either forming or joining another party is the imminent beginning of your political funeral, culminating in your final burial through the 2026 governorship election,” Olabisi declared.

He also accused the Omoluabi Progressives of attempting to destabilize the APC, adding, “The APC will not miss Aregbesola’s supporters, as their efforts to hijack the party have failed.”

Olabisi insisted that the Osun APC remained strong and united, dismissing the Omoluabi Progressives as a faction that lacked respect for political elders and benefactors.

“The ambulatory Omoluabi Progressives believe they are more progressive in Nigeria than the real progenitors of the progressives party,” he said.

He concluded his statement with a Yoruba proverb, “Whoever wants to bury his elder brother nakedly should take along his younger brother to show the latter how he too would be buried at the end of his journey of life.”

The Omoluabi Progressives’ exit comes amid ongoing tensions within the Osun APC, particularly following the 2022 governorship election that saw the party lose control of the state to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
