Opposition Parties Lack APC’s Qualities In 2015 – Okonkwo
Former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has said the country’s current opposition political parties lacked the qualities that made the Peoples Democratic Party lose the 2015 general election.
Naija News reports that Okonkwo said, unlike the current political opposition parties, APC in 2015 had cohesion and members of the party sacrificed to ensure victory against the then President Goodluck Jonathan‘s government.
“APC as the opposition party in 2015 defeated the incumbent ruling party, PDP, through sheer industry, inclusivity, sacrifice, cohesion, ingenuity, doggedness, bravery, and what have you,” he said.
The former spokesman of Peter Obi/Datti Ahmed’s presidential campaign organization under the Labour Party decried that opposition parties have preferred crumbs from the table of the ruling party to viable opposition.
“The opposition parties today lack these qualities and are busy eating from the crumbs that fall off the corrupt table of the ruling APC. Until they begin to organize and not agonize, to unite rather than disunite, they will not make headway. They are dealing with a Tinubu who overwhelmed the system as a citizen and became President, much more now he is President,” he stated.
The Nollywood legend charged the opposition parties to demand an amendment of the country’s Electoral Act. He urged to also demand a rejig of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The former Labour Party chieftain further slammed opposition parties for involving President Bola Tinubu in their internal crisis.
“They should start by insisting on electoral law amendments to reflect current electronic realities. Fight to ensure that they mobilize Nigerians to defend their votes and inspire them through leading protests to fight for good governance. Insist on INEC being composed of non-partisan men of integrity and the sacking of corrupt ones.
“Waiting for a sitting partisan President to help the opposition is like appealing to the devil to discipline the demons. If they lack strategy, they should borrow a leaf from Tinubu’s script on how to defeat an incumbent,” he added.
