We Have Delivered Infrastructure For Tech Growth In Oyo - Makinde

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has said the state has put in place all necessary infrastructure that supports investment in technology.

Naija News reports that Governor Makinde said his administration was committed to providing the right business environment for technopreneurs to leverage.

Makinde stated this on Saturday while delivering a remark at the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria Summit 1.0 with the theme ‘The Rain of Transformation Is Upon Us: CEOs Arise,’ held in Ibadan.

His speech was released, in a statement, by his Media Aide, Sulaimon Olarenwaju, on Sunday. He highlighted the creation of an innovation and technology hub in the state and the inclusion of technology in the state’s tertiary education system.

“There are few things that the state government is doing such as creating an enabling environment for companies like RAIN to thrive. This is very important and we have built institutes like Seyi Makinde Innovation and Technology Hub (SMITH), which helps in training students in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.

“If you look at our tertiary institutions, we have brought in digital tools to unify our students’ information and management system, which enables companies like RAIN and others. This is a discussion we are looking to have to then put some of their courses on platforms like this, which can give it a wider reach to citizens of Oyo State in partnership with RAIN,” he said.

He further stated that the recommendation of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) charge per linear meter has been implemented by his administration.

“Oyo State, as at a year ago, charged about ₦145 per linear meter. That’s in line with the NCC suggested rate. So, we are fully keyed into that to ease the cost of doing business for people who are trying to deliver infrastructure,” he added.

Speaking at the summit, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, said the global workforce of the future would be shaped by Africa, and Nigeria will be at the forefront of this.

“Therefore we need to continue to invest in the potential of our people wherever they may be,” he said.
