PDP NWC Holds Emergency Meeting After Supreme Court Ruling

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Ambassador Umar Damagum, is currently holding a crucial emergency meeting following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of a motion seeking to halt the removal of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.

This is the first official meeting of the PDP’s top leadership since the apex court rejected Anyanwu’s motion for a stay of execution of a High Court judgment that removed him from office and replaced him with Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye.

Naija News recall that the apex court on Monday struck out the request after Anyanwu’s legal team opted to withdraw it.

Justice Musa Awani Aba-Aji, who presided over the case, dismissed the application following a request from Kingsley Njemanze (SAN), who represented Anyanwu.

The withdrawal effectively upholds the concurrent rulings of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal in Enugu, which had earlier removed Anyanwu from his position as PDP National Secretary.

In a related development, security operatives comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Wednesday cleared thugs from the headquarters of the PDP in Abuja.

A party insider, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to fear of victimization, told Punch that the thugs were allegedly recruited to prevent members of the National Working Committee (NWC) from accessing the party’s headquarters for their scheduled meetings.
