Fans were heartbroken in early 2017 when Kaufman announced to his show pal Richard Rawlings that he was leaving him to pursue new challenges. Kaufman leaving the show also meant he no longer worked at Gas Monkey Garage, the Dallas-based mechanic where he built and built cars with Rawlings for 14 years.
Kaufman said varying professional and personal preferences as the reason he left his friend. He pointed out that the incredible deadlines put him under such pressure that he could not pursue other interests. Kaufman said he didn’t feel comfortable building cars in a few weeks and would rather build them at his own pace. Fans of the show know what a perfectionist Kaufman is.
Satisfying the curiosity of fans, Kaufman was quick to talk about his next venture – building Ford F-100 trucks. For those who don’t know, Ford is one of Kaufman’s favorite car brands. Kaufman founded the manufacturing company ArcLight to spark interest in his new area of interest.
While Kaufman’s departure from Fast N’ Lou obviously took Rawling by surprise and left him a bit heartbroken, the two are on good terms and hold no grudges against each other. After Kaufman launched his new venture, Gas Monkey showed some love by writing about it on his blog. The Gas Monkey article read;
“Some may remember Aaron Kaufman and Richard from Fast N’ Loud’s final season, but that doesn’t mean it’s the last you’ll see. Fast N’ Loud returns this fall with some great builds and a few surprises. As for Aaron, he just started a Kickass craft shop, arclightfab.com.”
“Returning to his Ford roots, Aaron will be manufacturing for the early model Ford trucks that are dear to him, and is hosting a cruise this fall for like-minded enthusiasts. The Fun Hundred Run will take participants hundreds of miles of the best driving roads in Texas, with camps and mates along the way. Plus, he has a working store with shirts, hats and stickers, so be sure to show him some love with his new adventures.”
