Adam Savage is a jack of all trades who began his career in early childhood, working for his father’s show, ‘Sesame Street.’ Savage was considered a child prodigy for being involved in different acting assignments. He even went through formal acting training, but it was graphic design that inspired him. He made a few stage appearances before giving up acting and then began focusing on creating special effects for movies. Adam has previously worked as an educator, teaching students about modeling, and has been a host on several television shows.

Adam Savage: early life, education
Adam Savage was born on July 15, 1967 in New York to animator/filmmaker Whitney Kee Savage and Karen, a psychotherapist. Savage is a proud, ethnically white American. He grew up in a family of six children, with four older children from his parents’ previous marriages. Adam’s younger sister Kate is also a talented artist. Later, the brothers followed in their father’s footsteps, making a career in the field of art.
Adam completed his elementary school from ‘Sleepy Hollow High School’ in 1985. He used to be a talented artistic kid who was always interested in acting. After 5 years in acting school, he began voicing the animated characters his father was working on for Sesame Street. During that period, he even worked for a commercial for toilet paper. Later, he landed a small role in Billy Joel’s music video for ‘You are Only Human’.
Adam Savage: Career away from acting
When Savage turned 19, he discovered that his passion lay elsewhere. So, he decided to quit acting and gave graphic design a try and what a great decision it turned out to be for him. To name a few of his jobs, Savage has been working as an animator, graphic designer, movie developer, and the list could go on. Savage was a model maker for the movies Galaxy Quest, Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, The Matrix Reloaded, etc.
Adam then went on to work for a Discovery Channel show, ‘MythBusters’. He with his co-host tries to refute or confirm the myths through scientific experiments that are carried out on different scales. In contrast to Jamie Hyneman’s more reserved straight persona, Savage’s demeanor is animated and energetic. This has been one of the most successful television shows dealing with science and continues to inspire and teach generations to find the real answer behind the myths. He even received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Twente for his contribution to the popularization of science and technology.
Adam Savage: personal life
Savage is married to Julia Ward and they have been together since 2004. He also has twin sons from a previous relationship and the whole family now leads a happy life in San Francisco. Savage describes himself as an atheist; meaning that he doesn’t believe in a “God” figure and instead looks to science for answers. He has also developed congenital otosclerosis which requires a hearing aid in his left ear.
