Alison Arngrim is a Canadian-American actress best known for her portrayal of the despicable Nellie Olson in the long-running television drama series, Little House on the Prairie. In 2002, she was recognized by the Young Artist Foundation for her ex-Child Lifetime Achievement Award for her superb work as a child actor in the series.
She is also the New York Times Best Selling author of a memoir titled Confessions of a Prairie Bitch: How I Survived Nellie Oleson and Learned to Love Being Hated. She then rewrote the book into a women’s exhibition she produced across the United States and France. Alison is deeply involved in activism and charity work.

The child star was born on January 28, 1962 to Thor Arngrim and Norma MacMillan, in New York. She was the youngest of two children. Alison started acting at a very young age, in commercials and in small roles in films like Dropping Anchor, until her breakthrough role in 1974, when she was cast as the spoiled, petty, and annoying Little house on the prairie.
Nellie was a major character on the show. However, when her character fell in love and married, her impact on the show waned and she agreed to be written off the show, but returned for one final episode in 1984.
Building on her success on the show, she began appearing in shows like The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and I Married Wyatt Earp. She also started standing up, playing in comedy clubs across the country and Canada. She created a hilarious one-woman show based on her time playing Nellie that became hugely popular.
