This all-time female entertainer was born on July 23, 1971 in Decatur, Illinois as Alison Maria Krauss. Her father is a German immigrant to the United States and her mother is of German-Italian descent. Krauss was raised in Champaign.
According to her, she first got involved in music because her mother wanted something different to occupy her art and sport, but her mother didn’t know she was launching her daughter into something bigger than just a hobby or something to do at will.
At the age of five she was introduced to classical violin which she soon left for bluegrass. At eight years old, she was already participating in local competitions and contests. By age ten she had her own band, and by thirteen she won the Illinois Violin Championship and was named by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America as the most promising. This properly launched Alison Krauss in her musical career. In 1985, she made her professional debut, appearing on an album. Different shots which was made by his brother Viktor Krauss, Bruce Weiss and Jim Holies. The album came to independent label Fiddle Tunes and the same year Krauss was signed to Rounder Records.
Her debut album Too Late to Cry, which she did with her band, Union Station was released in 1987 and won them the National American Band Championship competition held by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass . This was followed by a second album within the station, Deux autoroutes, released in 1989 and then another solo album J’ai ce vieux sentiment, which came in 1990.
Her debut album got Krauss her first Grammy Award, while her second album with Union Station – Every Time You Say Goodbye released in 1992 won her a second Grammy Award. Whatever hits she’s already had, it’s Krauss’ 1995 compilation disc Now I’ve Found You: A Collection that brought her remarkable fame and made her a household name. The album not only stayed second on the US country chart for weeks, but also sold over a million copies.
