Allison Brooks Janney was born on the 19th of November 1959 in Boston. However, she grew up in Dayton, Ohio, where she attended various schools, including the Miami Valley School, Dayton and the Hotchkiss School, Connecticut. During school years, the actress excelled in various sports, such as track and figure skating. She was so good at figure skating that she even aspired to pursue a professional career. However, that dream was cut short by a serious leg injury she sustained at a graduation ceremony.
Allison Janney also had a strong passion for acting from a young age. She took part in several school plays and after high school enrolled at Kenyon College to study drama.
