Alexandra Elizabeth Sheedy was born on the 13th day of June 1962 in New York. Her mother, Charlotte is a writer and activist who was a prominent member of civil right-wing movements while her father worked as an advertising executive. Ally Sheedy grew up with two siblings, Patrick and Meghan.

Sheedy made her debut as a dancer with the prestigious American Ballet Theatre, joining the theater at the impressive age of six.
