Amanda Freitag is an American chef best known for being the judge on the Food Network reality series Chopped. She is also a co-host on American Diner Revival with Ty Pennington. Through her appearances on various television shows, Amanda has been thrust into the limelight. She appeared on the Martha Stewart Show in 2009, also donating recipes for the fifth season of the Breast Cancer Show, which has now been cancelled.
A year after her appearance on the Martha show, Amanda Freitag was a judge on Chopped, a food game show. She also appeared as a competitor at the Next Iron Chief second season where she lost to Bobby Flay. Amanda returned to the show again in 2012 and lost in her fifth season to Alex Guarnaschelli. She appeared on an episode of Iron Chef America that same year alongside Madison Cowan, who won the show chopped. In 2015, she co-hosted American Diner Revival, a Food Network series with Ty Pennington.
Biography of Amanda Freitag
Amanda Freitag was born on May 11th , 1972 in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, United States of America to Kathleen, her mother, and Paul, her father. Amanda grew up with her two brothers; Jason and Justin. She attended Cedar Grove High School, a public high school previously called Memorial High School.
While Amanda Freitag was in high school, her teacher discovered that she had excellent cooking skills and so encouraged her to enroll in the Culinary Institute of America. She then went to the Culinary Institute of the United States and graduated in 1989. She was then hired by a Franco-Taiwanese restaurant, Vong located in New York.
Career
Freitag worked under the direction of Jean-Georges Vongerichten during his time in Vong until 1994. Jean-Georges commands restaurants in different capitals of the world. He has various cookbooks to his name. Amanda eventually left Vong and went to work at Verbena under chef Diane Forley. Diane is the owner of Verveine Restaurant and Courtyard Garden. She is the head chef of New American Cuisine
Amanda Freitag traveled to Italy and France after finishing her stay at Verveine Restaurant and Courtyard Garden. She stayed some time in Paris, France, to work at the Restaurant l’Arpege owned by Alain Passard. After accumulating a wealth of experience in France, Amanda returned to the United States to partner with restaurant consultant Godfrey Polistina, opening a restaurant called Cesca Enoteca and Trattoria Restaurant in 2003. The restaurant was located in the far west from New York City and served Italian-American cuisine. She worked as a chef in the restaurant.
Executive Chef Positions
When Freitag finally left Cesca, she took the executive chef position at Harrison, a modern, seasonal American restaurant. She worked there until 2010. That’s when the owner, Jimmy Bradley, returned and took over as chef. Four years later, Amanda took on the role of executive chef at the Empire Diner in Manhattan, where she worked for a year. It was a vogue and retro restaurant.
Besides cooking, Freitag is also a prolific writer and has written a cookbook titled The Chef Next Door: A Professional Chef’s Recipes for Fun and Fearless Home Cooking. The goal of this book was to help improve the readers’ confidence and add joy to their home cooking. It’s a comprehensive how-to book with information, techniques, and over 100 Food Network recipes.

There has been speculation that she had been in a relationship for six years with an ultrasound technician, Raphael, and they were often seen traveling together.
