Andres Garcia Menedez was born in Havana, Cuba on April 12, 1956. His mother, Amelia Menendez, was a school tutor and his father, Rene Garcia Nunez, was a farmer who grew avocados, he was also a lawyer in Cuba. He then ran a perfume business in the United States when they moved there.

Andy Garcia was born with a twin, the size of a tennis ball attached to his shoulder which was surgically removed and he still bears the scar to this day. His family fled Cuba due to political tension when he was 5 years old and settled in Miami, Florida. Her family, however, gradually established itself in Miami, starting a multi-million dollar perfume business.

Garcia attended Nautilus College and Miami Beach High School where he played sports including basketball. His athletic career was cut short when he contracted mononucleosis and hepatitis, which led him to focus on acting. However, he enrolled in an acting class with Jay W. He studied and acted while a student at Florida International University. He then moved to Hollywood to pursue his acting career after graduation. He landed a supporting role, playing a gang member in a TV series Hills Street Blues but his first big screen appearance was in the movie Blues Skies Again in 1983. He was a supporting actor alongside Kurt Russell in The middle season in 1985. He was also chosen for a role in director Brian De Palma’s Les Incorruptibles (1987).

Garcias played the role of Vincent Mancini, the illegitimate son of Sonny Corleone and it earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination. Garcia’s career was meteoric in the 90s as he starred in several highly rated films such as Internal AffairsHeroes, When a Woman Loves a ManThings to Do in Denver When You’re DeadNight Falls On Manhattan, and Thug (1998).

In his role in the 2001 big-screen movie, Ocean Eleven, he was notable as a ruthless casino owner. The film had been directed by Steven Soderbergh and was among the top five grossing films of 2001. It was also featured in both films. Ocean Douze in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007.

Garcia co-wrote, directed and starred alongside his daughters in The Lost City in 2005. His voice was featured as Eduardo in Rio and he was nominated for an award for Voice Acting in a Feature Production. Garcia has been nominated for numerous awards and has won several during his acting career.
