Angelique Kerber was born on January 18, 1988 in Bremen, Germany. Her mother Beata (née Rzeźnik) is of Polish descent while her father Sławomir Kerber is of German descent from Poznań, Poland. She grew up in the city of Kiel, in northern Germany, alongside a brother, a sister named Jessica. Angélique Kerber has dual German-Polish nationality and speaks German, Polish and English.

Kerber started playing tennis very tenderly at age and his mother served as his manager during his junior career. She progressed to the later stages of several competitions both in Germany and throughout Europe. However, she didn’t pick up any junior titles until 2003, when she had already made her professional debut.
