Barry Manilow – Biography, Age

The American musician was born on June 17, 1943, in Brooklyn New York. Of Jewish and Irish descent; his mother, Edna Manilow, was of Russian Jewish descent while his father, Harold Pincus, was of Jewish-Irish descent. Growing up, Barry Manilow attended Eastern District High School in Brooklyn. He then proceeded to City College of New York, but did not finish at the institution. Barry’s love for the musical side of life led him to New York College of Music.

The musician began his career in 1964 when he came into contact with a CBS executive, Bro Herrod. His encounter with Herrod saw him write and arrange songs for a musical adaptation of the melodrama, The Drunkard. The composition turned out to be very impressive and was performed in the Off-Broadway musical. Manilow later wrote several jingles and even became the music director for the WCBS-TV series, Recall in 1967.

His first album, Barry Manilow, was released in 1973, and his second album, Barry Manilow II, was released almost immediately. The singer then released his third album Try to Feel in 1975. The fourth album, This One’s For You, also followed in 1976. Manilow made several appearances on CBS programs which he also produced. With her fifth album, Even Now, in 1978, it was clear her career was in full swing. More albums followed and Barry also went on several tours to promote his platinum albums.

Personal life – is he gay, who is the partner?

Like his music, Barry Manilow has a dynamic story when it comes to his personal life. He is one of the few celebrities married to both a man and a woman. Barry’s first marriage was to his high school girlfriend, Susan Deixler, in 1964. However, their marriage was short-lived due to Barry’s unwavering commitment to his music career. The singer said that despite his love for Susan, he was so focused on his music and was so young at the time that he didn’t have the mental capacity to get married. This gradually hampered the success of their marriage which ended in 1966.

The singer began another relationship with Garry Kief, a television executive, in 1978. The two managed to keep their relationship a secret until they got married. Barry and Garry got married in 2014 when same-sex marriage was legalized in the state of California. But the public learned about their union in 2015 through rumors that were later confirmed.

Barry revealed that his love for Susan was real despite her subsequent relationship with a man, adding that their marriage did not end because of her sexuality but because of her career and preparation for engagement.
