In all sports, there are those who are considered the bad boys and spoiled brats. For Formula 1, Eddie Irvine, who has already been touted as the spoiled, would say the kid is Sebastian Vettel, while for football the odds could well fall on Odell Beckham Jr. In tennis, it will only be Bernard Tomic. who, although he made a name for himself on the pitch as a great player, also walked away from the pitch for the controversies he still courts.

The biography of Bernard Tomic

Tomic was born on October 21, 1992 in Stuttgart, Germany to a Bosnian mother, Ady Tomic, and a Croatian father, John, who were both working in Germany when he was born. When he was 3, the family moved to Australia where he was raised alongside his younger sister Sara Tomic, who is also a professional tennis player.

Before he turned 16, Tomic had already dominated the junior category, winning three Orange Bowl trophies at the junior world championships, as well as the men’s singles title at the Australian Open. Thanks to his success, his father soon decided to quit his job and set up as his son’s coach. The most interesting thing about all of this is that the eldest Tomic never played tennis.

Earlier in his career, even before the junior ITFTour, his dream was to become the number 1 tennis player in the world and win the Grand Slam. With a successful run and two junior grand slams under his belt, he finished his career with the highest junior rank.

He was just 15 in 2018 when he started his professional career at the Australian Open, where he could only qualify beyond the first leg.

At the beginning of 2019, he had already recorded 4 career titles. He once reached the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam (Wimbledon Championships 2011). His highest world ranking was in January 2016, when he was ranked No. 17 in the world.

Beyond his successes, he has a long list of controversies, including wanting his dad ejected at the Miami Open, taking on the likes of Lleyton Hewitt, lashing out at Tennis Australia and having a few minor issues with the police.

Girlfriend, parents and family

As already stated, Tomic’s parents are John and Ady Tomic. After her family moved to Australia, her mother earned two degrees while her father continued to work and help the children play tennis.

When it comes to her relationship side of life, the Australian tennis player has dated a number of women in the past. He once dated Gold Coast beauty Donay Meijer but the relationship ended in 2012. The next woman he dated was Chelsey Grbcic but that relationship ended again soon after.

Much later, the woman who became his girlfriend was model Emma Blake-Hahnel who he dated for over a year before abruptly breaking up with her. Controversially, Bernard Tomic didn’t let her know he was breaking up with her. He instead told the media that he was no longer with the model and was single. Blake-Hahnel found out she was alone in the relationship from the tabloids.

Net value

For the Tomics, it’s been a long road. Before the tennis player and his sister were born, their parents were refugees who fled to Germany after losing everything before moving to Australia.

Less than three decades after all, BernardTomic has already acquired a net worth of $15 million. He has won over $5 million in prize money, thanks to his highly successful career so far. Additionally, he has benefited from the numerous endorsement deals he has secured, including with brands such as Nike and Head.

In 2018 he was pressed by reporters to explain why he failed to qualify for the Australian Open, he replied telling them he was just counting his money before sarcastically telling them to earn between 13 and 14 million dollars.
