A comedian, film and television actor, voice actor, and game show host, Billy Gardell is indeed a multi-talented entertainer. He started out as a stand-up comedian before turning to acting in 2000. Gardell is best known to television audiences for his portrayal of one of the title characters on the sitcom Mike & Molly

The multi-talented TV star was born William Gardell on August 20, 1969 in Swissvale, Pennsylvania. His parents’ marriage ended in divorce when he was a child. As a result, he moved to Florida along with his mother and siblings. He received his high school education from Winter Park High School in Orange County, Florida.

Gardell got his first job at the age of 15 in a department store warehouse. On December 28, 1987, he was pressured by his co-workers to perform at an Orlando comedy club’s open mic night, resulting in him losing a bet against them. Interestingly, this was Gardell’s first take on stand-up comedy and an unofficial start to his showbiz career. He received a positive response for this performance in the first phase and was therefore encouraged to perform at several other open mic nights at the same club. After finding his rhythm in comedy, he decided to pursue a full-time career in art and eventually got offered a job at the comedy club. He has also performed in several cities across the United States.

Gardell guest-starred on an episode of the sitcom The King of Queens in early 2000 followed by several other guest roles. The following year, he landed a recurring role as Billy Colavita on the sitcom Yes Dear (2001-06). He was also cast in a leading role in the short-lived dark comedy series Happy (2003). Gardell marked his feature film debut with a small role on the crime comedy Angelo the Revenge (2002) opposite Sylvester Stallone, followed by a role in the Christmas comedy Bad Santa (2003). He also starred in the hit comedy You, Me and Dupree (2006) and the hugely successful South Korean action-adventure filmDragon Wars: D-War (2007).

In addition to guest starring on various hit series, Gardell also had a recurring role on the sitcom My Name Is Earl (2007-09). He then landed his biggest TV role to date as a lead on the sitcom Mike & Molly (2010-16), starring as Officer Mike Biggs. The show was canceled in 2016 after a successful 6 season run. While working on Mike & Molly Gardell also charted a number of films including the animated TV special Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas (2011) and the musical drama film Jersey Boys (2014). He also had a recurring role as Colonel Tom Parker on the drama series Sun Records (2017).
