She was raised in Long Beach, California by her parents Paul Collins and wife Norma Collins. Her father, Paul, worked as an executive at Hobie Cat while her mother was a makeup artist and hairstylist at Ann-Margret. When she was very young, her parents divorced and her mother was linked to an American stuntman Bobby Bass who became Derek’s stepfather.
