Bob Marley Biography, Children, Grandchildren

It was on February 6, 1945 that Marley was born as Robert Nesta Marley in Jamaica. The man was born to a white father from England, Norval Sinclair Marley, and a black Jamaican mother, Cedella Booker. The farm-born boy-turned-reggae-star was largely raised by his mother as his father was always away and he later died of a heart attack when his son was only 10 years old.

In an attempt to get an education, Bob attended Stepney Primary and later Junior High School. Despite this, he was more interested in music than in education.

He began his musical career with the late Wailers and later went solo and relocated to the UK. His 1977 Exodus album brought him into the limelight. With over 75 million records sold, he undoubtedly became a formidable force in the global music industry.

Marley married Alpharita Constantia “Rita” Anderson on February 10, 1966. Together they have four children. They have also adopted children as well as other children from their previous separated relationships. Among their children are Sharon, Cedella, David, Robert, Rohan, Karen, Stephanie, Julian, Ky-Mani and Damian.

Marley also has more than 30 grandchildren. Among them is his son, Skip Marley, who doesn’t exactly resemble his grandfather, but also sounds like him. Although there is hardly anyone as good as Bob, Skip is not bad. What sets Skip apart from most others is the fact that he blends reggae and modern music without corrupting the arts. Exactly what you expect from Bob Marley’s grandson.

How Bob Marley died

Like most other legends, you will always find different stories about how this Marley died. One of the popular stories of how he lost his life at the prime age of 36 is that he injured himself during a soccer game and that was what gained weight and later led to his death.

However, the devoted Rastafarian who loves playing soccer died from a form of skin cancer known as acral lentiginous melanoma. This was first noticed on his toe and soon spread to other parts of his body. When the cancer on his leg was discovered, the advice was that his toe should be amputated, but he declined as according to the Rastafarian religion it is a sin to dismember any part of his temple (body).

This continued to spread and led to his death. Before that, he had his last performance in Pittsburgh in September 1980 before collapsing while jogging. He was then flown to Germany where, under the care of Josef Issels, he undertook a very controversial diet regimen, but it only got worse. For this reason he was flown to Miami on May 11, 198 for treatment but died on arrival at Cedars Of Lebanon Hospital.

Since his death, there have been many conspiracy theories believing that the man was actually killed by the CIA. Indeed, in 2017, news broke that a former CIA agent was brought up to confess to the alleged crime. However, as you will expect, everything turns out to be wrong.
