Alain Juppé comes from a family anchored in French politics. Born on August 15, 1945 in Mont-de-Marsan, in the Landes, he is the son of Robert Juppé, a resistance fighter and mathematics teacher, and Marie Darroze, a housewife. On his father’s side, Alain Juppé is the descendant of a family originating from Madagascar, where his ancestors participated in the colonization of the island. His grandfather, Charles Juppé, was a diplomat and governor of the French Somali Coast (present-day Djibouti). 

On her mother’s side, her family comes from the French Basque Country, more precisely from Saint-Jean-de-Luz. In addition to his family heritage, Alain Juppé also built a network of political alliances. He is the brother-in-law of Patrick Devedjian, former minister and close to Nicolas Sarkozy. He is also the father of Laura Flessel, former fencer and Minister of Sports. After brilliant studies at the ENA, Alain Juppé began his political career within the Gaullist RPR party, founded by Jacques Chirac. He quickly rose through the ranks and in 1976 became deputy for the second constituency of Paris. He would later occupy several ministerial positions, notably that of Prime Minister from 1995 to 1997, under the presidency of Jacques Chirac.
