Harold Ramis, famous actor, director, screenwriter and producer, was born on November 21, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. He is the son of Nathan and Ruth Ramis, both Jewish immigrants from Russia. Harold Ramis has Russian, Lithuanian and Romanian ancestry. He grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, in an observant Jewish family, and had a religious upbringing. On his father’s side, Harold Ramis is the grandson of Abraham and Goldie Ramis, who emigrated to America from Russia in the early 20th century. His paternal grandfather was a baker by profession. On his mother’s side, he is the grandson of Jacob and Sarah Tertzakow, who also emigrated from Russia. 

Harold Ramis was married to Anne Plotkin, with whom he had two children, Violet and Julian. Unfortunately, their marriage ended in 1984.
