Conan Christopher O’Brien was born on April 18, 1963 in Brookline Massachusetts. He comes from a large Irish Catholic family consisting of his father, Thomas Francis O’Brien, and his mother, Ruth. He also had three brothers and two sisters. O’Brien’s parents were outstanding achievers. His father was a doctor and professor of medicine at Harvard, while his mother was a partner in a Boston law firm.
Conan O’Brien attended Brookline High School where his good writing skills emerged. He was senior editor of the school newspaper, won a national writing competition in 1981 and was valedictorian. Afterward, O’Brien transferred to Harvard University, where he also served as a writer and president of the school’s humor magazine, Harvard Lampoon . All that time he spent messing around didn’t hurt his academic prowess as he graduated magna cum laude from Harvard with a BA in American History & Literature.
career
After graduating, Conan O’Brien moved to Los Angeles where he began his career in earnest. He got his first gig as a writer for the HBO comedy show, Not Necessarily the News . He spent two years there before going on Saturday Night Live while on SNL, writing many recurring sketches and also appearing as extras on television. 1989 he and his companion SNLWriters received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy or Variety Series. O’Brien spent nearly four years at SNL before retiring in 1991. His next destination was The Simpsons, where he continued his writing career. He was with the show from 1991 to 1993 and produced some memorable episodes like “New Kid on the Block” and “Treehouse of Horror IV”
Following the departure of longtime Late Night host David Letterman, O’Brien was hired in 1993 to fill in the big shoes he was leaving behind. His first season at the helm of the show was poor and he was hit by critics. Ratings dropped so low that at one point his contract was weekly. O’Brien refused to back down, and by season two things got better. His audience steadily grew and he began topping the ratings. Late Night with Conan O’Brien ran for 16 years, and O’Brien and his writing team received numerous accolades, including an Emmy Award for Best Writing in a Comedy or Variety Series in 2007 End of The Tonight Showbetween 2009 and 2010. They were 18 months old before getting married in 2002. They have two children; Daughter Neve was born in 2003 and son Beckett in 2005.
scandal
Conan O’Brien was involved in some controversy with another popular comedian, Jay Leno, during his stint on The Tonight Show between 2009 and 2010. Both he and Leno hosted two different shows for the NBC network, The Tonight Show and The Jay leno show Eventually, both shows weren’t doing well, and NBC decided to push the Tonight Show’s time further just to give Jay Leno the nod. The plan did not go down well with O’Brien, who felt his own (also ailing) show was being disadvantaged, and he left the show in January 2010.
Additionally, in July 2015, freelance comedian Alex Kaseberg filed a lawsuit alleging that Conan O’Brien copied five of the jokes he had posted on his blog. The O’Brien team dismissed the allegation as false and asked the judge to summarily throw out the suit. In May 2017, the judge ruled that the comedian should face the allegations for three of the five jokes. So far nothing more has been heard about it.

When his show faltered in the early stages of his career, some people even suggested that his height might be an issue.
