On March 22, 1982, Constance Wu was born in Richmond, Virginia. Her birth name is Constance Tianming Wu and her parents were from Taiwan before they decided to move to the United States. It was in Richmond, where she was born, that Constance was raised by her father, a professor of genetics and mother of a programmer, alongside her three other sisters; 2 older sisters and a younger one.

For her education, the very interesting and influential actress attended Douglas S. Freeman High School, where she later went to the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute to earn a certificate to enhance her acting skills. In 2005, she graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase, where she earned a degree in fine arts. Also, she went to Columbia University where she again earned a degree in speech therapy.

Ever since she was a young girl, Wu had always wanted to be an actress. Following this, she entered community theater at the age of 12. She got to play her first acting role in the theater when she had a part in a play. Wind in the willows. As she progressed through high school and even beyond, she continued to take part in more theater productions. More so, while still in college, she sought out jobs in theaters which helped her learn and adapt to life as a professional actor.

While still very young, the actress began to read many books on acting, and she never got tired of practicing what she read. It is in this spirit that her talent is solidly built and that helped her land her first film role in The Sound of My Voice after leaving New York where she had gone to study in Los Angeles, she went pursue an acting career.

Soon, she could be starring in several films such as Deadly Revenge, Watching TV with the Red Chinese, Best Friends Forever, and most recently, The Feelings and Crazy Rich Asians. Some of the things she’s been a part of on television include: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Undercover Affairs, and Fresh Off the Boat which has remained one of her best performances. She was also part of the hit series, EastSiders.
