Biography of Cristina Scabbia

Cristina Scabbia was born Cristina Adriana ChiaraScabbia on June 6, 1972 in Italy. Happy from birth with a very beautiful voice, Scabbia started singing and turned professional in 1991 at the age of 19. She started out singing backs and touring with already established bands.

That same year, her interaction with musicians led her to meet bassist/composer Marco Coti Zelati at the Midnight Club. She soon began dating Zelati who, at the time, was considering forming a band with vocalist Andrea Ferro. In 1994 the men formed the band named Right Sleep in Milan and employed Scabbia as their session vocalist.

The group would then change its name to become Ethereal. Still with Scabbia on vocals, the band began recording their demo, which resulted in them signing their first recording contract with the German branch of Century Media. After learning that the label had previously had another band named Ethereal, the band changed their name to Lacuna Coil, which translates to “empty spiral”.

Scabbia at this time was invited to join the groupAs a co-vocalist, the whole group loved the sound of her voice alongside Andrea Ferro. Lacuna Coil released their first EP and started touring Europe. Their first studio album, In a Reverie was released in 1998, following their second European tour as supporting acts.

With the release of their second album, Souvenirs Libérés in 2001, Lacuna Coil began touring the United States as the lead act of Portuguese heavy metal band Moonspell. Cristina Scabbia and Lacuna Coil got their first big break in 2002 with the release of their third studio album. Comalia. The group was featured in the television series Uranium which brought them more recognition in the United States. The success of their third studio album prompted their first headlining tour later in 2003. Their single ‘Swamped’ from the album was used in two video games – Vampire, and Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Lacuna Coil has become one of Century Media’s most successful companies. They have since released at least 8 studio albums and were nominated for the MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Italian Act 2006. In 2018 they won the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award for Best Live Act.

Married / Husband

Cristina Scabbia has never been married, so she hasn’t had a husband, however, her long-term relationship with Slipknot guitarist Jim Root could pass for marriage. The pair started dating in 2004 and managed a long distance relationship until 2017 when everything fell apart.

Regular tours for Scabbia took place from time to time to weigh in on her romantic life before it came to an end. Throughout their relationship, Root lived in Florida, while Scabbia settled in Milan, Italy. Scabbia, through a Facebook post in late 2017, sadly revealed her split from Root, describing their 13 years of relationship as the most fulfilling 13 years of her life and her heart.

Sadly, the year she ended things with JimRoot was also the same year she lost both parents within months. She revealed her loss in the same Facebook post where she described her parents as the two human beings she loved the most in the entire universe. She also acknowledged their lifelong support for the success of her mainstream audience.
