BIOGRAPHY
A member of the Footlights (drama club) while a student at Cambridge, Daniel Jonathan Stevens began his career in 2004 in the mini series Frankenstein . Staying in the fantastic vein, he appeared in the English television film Dracula in 2006. Going unnoticed in Hilde in 2009, the young man gained notoriety thanks to the role of Matthew Crawley, the only male heir required to marry his cousin Mary, in the British series Downton Abbey .

His new recognition opened the doors of cinema to him and in 2012, he played Joey Van Helsing, descendant of a family of demon hunters and boyfriend of Stacy, a young vampire looking for love, in the comedy Vamps . The following year, he and Dominic Cooper competed for the love of Emily Browning in the biopic Summer in February .

After distinguishing himself in The Fifth Estate alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in 2014, the actor changed register and participated in the thriller Walking Between the Graves , in which he hired Liam Neeson to find his wife’s kidnappers and killers. Dan Stevens begins 2015 with Night at the Museum: The Secret of the Pharaohs in the shoes of Lancelot du Lac, the villain of the film who makes life difficult for Ben Stiller and Robin Williams .

In 2017, the actor was given the lead role in the new FX production Legion . This X-men spin-off focuses on David Haller, the schizophrenic son of Professor Xavier, who also seems to be endowed with supernatural powers. Stevens is at the same time showing in cinemas, since he lends his voice and his features to the creature which capsizes the heart of Emma Watson in the remake of Beauty and the Beast . The feature film grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide…

Filming extensively, the Croydon native continues to shine in various genres, such as SF ( Redivider , I’m Your Man ), comedy romantic ( Permission , The Mind Amuses ), the biopic ( Marshall – The Truth About the Spell Affair , The Man Who Invented Christmas ), the drama ( Her Smell ) or even the horror thriller ( The Good Apostle , The Rental ). On the series side, he replaces Armie Hammer in Gaslit, who returns to the famous Watergate scandal, for the role of a young legal adviser to the White House.

Dan Stevens also shows his talents as a voice actor in the animated series Kipo and the Age of Animonstres and The Prince .
