David Byrne was born on May 14, 1952 in Dumbarton, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. When he was two years old, his parents moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and then to Arbutus, Maryland, USA when he was about nine years old. He was born to his father, Tom, an electronic engineer at Westinghouse Electronic Corporations and his mother, Emma, ​​who was an instructor. He was also the eldest of three children.
