Dolores O Riordan was an Irish entertainer, singer, songwriter and vocalist for the popular rock band. Cranberries. She was part of the band from 1990 until they broke up in 2003. They came back together and reunited in 2009, she remained with the band until her death in 2018.

O Riordan, whose debut solo album Listen, was released in 2007, was also known for his pulsating mezzo-soprano voice, heavy Limerick accent as well as his use of sharp. Her expertise allowed her to appear as a judge on The Voice of Ireland in 2013 and 2014. Biography of Dolores O Riordan

Dolores Mary Eileen O’Riordan was born in Ballybricken, County Limerick, on September 6, 1971, to a Roman Catholic family, being the youngest of nine children born to her parents. Besides his two siblings who died in infancy, O Riordan’s other six siblings are Terence, Brendan, Donal, PJ, Joseph, and Angela. His mother Eileen was a school caterer, while his father, Terence Patrick O’Riordan (1937-2011) was a farm laborer and suffered brain damage following a motorcycle accident in 1968.

Dolores O Riordan attended Laurel Hill Coláiste’s FCJ school in her hometown of Limerick, where she was appointed head but did not graduate. She said, during a 1995 interview, that songwriting and songwriting distracted her from school lessons. She also revealed, in 2013, that she had been sexually assaulted for four years by someone she trusted, although she did not specify who it was.

Career with cranberries

Dolores O Riordan joined The Cranberry Saw Us (now The Cranberries) in 1989. It was a rock band originally consisting of brothers Mike Hogan (bass) and Noel Hogan (guitar), Fergal Lawler (drums) and Niall Quinn (singer). When Quinn left the group less than a year after its inception, the remaining members released an advertisement for a singer. O Riordan auditioned by writing lyrics and melodies to existing demos and was hired to write a rough version of Attarder. Together they recorded a three-track EP titled Rien ne reste du tout, which sold 300 copies.

Their demo Attarder et Rêves caught the attention of the British press and recording industry. After much deliberation, the Cranberries signed with Island Records and released five albums: Everybody’s Doing It, So Why Can’t We? (1993), No Need to Argue (1994), To the Faithful Deceased (1996), Bury the Hatchet (1999), and Wake Up and Smell the Coffee (2001), and Stars: The Best of 1992-2002 .

O Riordan’s presence in the band was widely felt in the 1990s; both for her iconic style, her pixie cut or buzzed haircut and her enchanting habit of performing barefoot.

Solo career

By 2003, as the group agreed to embark on solo projects, Dolores O Riordan had collaborated on several albums, including Zu & Co., in the song Pure Love, and on the Evilenko soundtrack. She then released her first single, An Ordinary Day, followed by Are You Listening? which is his first album released in Ireland, Europe and North America; all in the same month in 2007. In August of the same year When We Were Young was released as her second single from the album.

During this time, she was named one of the 10 Richest Women in Ireland, 2006. The Cranberry reunion brought O’Riordan and the rock band members together again to perform at a concert celebrating O’Riordan’s appointment as an honorary member of the Society. They also toured North and South America (2010) to Europe, where the band not only played their classics, but also songs from O Riordan’s solo album as well as other new songs.

Dolores O Riordan also formed a click with three-member alternative rock band DARK, including Andy Rourke and Olé Koretsky, in April 2014. She remained active with both rock bands (The Cranberries and DARK) until to his unexpected disappearance in January 2018.

Marriage

O Riordan married her husband Don Burton, who was formerly her tour manager, on July 18, 1994, at Holy Cross Abbey, County Tipperary. They had three children and were married for 20 years until the end of 2014.

While her life seemed perfect, O Riordan had some health issues related to bipolar disorder. She was found dead in a bathtub in her living room at the London Hilton on Park Lane in Mayfair on January 15, 2018. She was in London for a recording session when the tragic incident happened, but police say there was no suspicion of foul play. An inquest into the cause of his death found it to be accidental drowning due to sedation brought on by alcohol poisoning.

Five miniature bottles and one of champagne and prescription drugs were found in his room. A blood test taken on her showed an alcohol content of 0.33% and only “therapeutic” amounts of drugs. A three-day memorial service was held at St. Joseph Church in Dolores O Riordan on January 20 and 22 in her honor. She was buried next to her father on January 23, 2018.
