Doug Pederson is a former American football quarterback who is currently the head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. He coached other teams and held lesser roles before being promoted to his current role. Doug faced many tough times in his coaching career as he was tossed about by teams. Even when he became head coach, he had very little support.

But despite the ups and downs, he persisted and is not only one of the most brilliant and dynamic head coaches in the National Football League (NFL), but he also ranked among the best coaches in the NFL and chronicled his life challenges and successes in a best-selling book. He is the author of Fearless: How an Underdog Becomes a Champion.

Biography of Doug Pederson

Pederson was born on January 31, 1968 in Bellingham, Washington and his star sign is Aquarius. He was born Douglas Irving Pederson to his parents – Teri and Gordon Pederson. Her father worked for Intalco Works, one of Colombia’s largest aluminum and chemical distributors.

For his high school education, Doug attended Ferndale High School where he was a tri-sport athlete. He played basketball, baseball and football and excelled in all three disciplines, but at the time of studies he chose football. He attended the University of Louisiana where he played college football as a quarterback from 1987 to 1990.

Gaming career

In May 1991, he signed a contract with the Miami Dolphins as an unwritten free agent, but did not play a single game for the team. He was let go two months later, in August, and spent the year without a team, but was drafted by the New Jersey Knights of the World League of American Football (WLAF) in March 1992 as a alternate quarterback Reggie Slacks. The Dolphins would re-sign him in March 1993, however, and in October he would play his first NFL game for the Dolphins in a win over the New York Giants.

In 1995, he again waived to the Dolphins and he later played for the Green Bay Packers as a backup quarterback. He signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999 worth $4.5 million. He would go on to have a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns in 2000 before returning to the Packers the following year on a one-year contract where he remained, renewing his contract on an annual basis until March 2005, when he announced his retirement.

Coaching career

Pederson was hired as the head coach of a private Christian school known as Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. During his coaching tenure, his team was in the playoffs for four consecutive years. In 2007, he led the team to their first-ever district title and they were only knocked out in the semi-finals.

In 2009, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles as their new quality control coach. Two years later, he was promoted to quarterback coach. In 2013, Doug joined the Kansas City Chiefs as an offensive coordinator, where he spent three years under longtime head coach Andy Reid. In January 2016, he was rehired by the Philadelphia Eagles as their head coach.

He was criticized as the least qualified coach for Doug, however, managed to win the Super Bowl without the most impressive player. This singular success immediately caught the eye, and he rose from the ranks of the least skilled to coaches such as Jon Gruden, John Harbaugh, Sean Payton and others who won the Super Bowl.

What is his net worth?

Doug Pederson began his coaching career in 2005, and over the years his net worth has grown alongside his winnings from a Super Bowl – an opportunity every coach dreams of. He is currently worth $19 million. In May 2018, he signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, which had been extended for only three months. He signed a contract extension in August of the same year, which pushed his contract with the franchise to 2022.

Doug Pederson’s wife and family

They say true love finds you in the most unexpected place and for Doug, it was a blind date with Jeanie. Blind dates can be so unexciting, but that wasn’t the case for Doug and his beloved wife. The two men met in 1990 at Johnny’s Pizza in Munroe, Louisiana, and married a year later. At the time, he was a student while Jeanie was still in high school; these two desperately needed to be together and couldn’t wait to graduate from school.

Life was not rosy for the couple back then Doug was trying to make a career for themselves while Jeanie was in school for a nursing degree, but they held on to each other and weathered the storm. They have three sons together. Doug admitted that his family was his biggest support and motivation, both as a player playing in the country, playing for different teams and as a coach. They currently live in New Jersey.
