Andre Romelle Young chose the name Dr. Dre has been since he started his music career in the early ’80s. He was born the first child of Theodore and Verna Young on February 18, 1965 in Compton, California. His father Theodore was a singer and a member of an R&B singing group. Troubles in paradise began for Dre when his parents separated in 1972.
After his parents separated, he lived with his grandmother who raised and nurtured him to be a better person. His mother later found love with Curtis Crayon and had three children with him, but sadly lost two of them at the hands of death. Like her previous marriage, the days she spent with Curtis were numbered as they soon divorced, resulting in her third marriage to Warren Griffin. With Warren, she had three daughters and a son. Overall, Dr. Dre has four half-sisters and one half-brother, all from his mother’s marriage.
