BIOGRAPHY
Eddie Marsan was born and raised in Bethnal Green, London. After a career in printing, the British launched into comedy and quickly made a name for himself thanks to the roles of charismatic villains. In 2003, he played a reverend (a role he played again in Beowulf, the Viking Legend in 2005) in 21 grams by Alejandro González Inárritu before playing the violent Killoran in Gangs of New York by Martin Scorsese .
Two years later, the actor experienced a prosperous period: appearing in Match Point by Woody Allen , then in New World , the historical fresco by Terrence Malick , he played the militants in Vera Drake by Mike Leigh , which he will be reunited in 2008 for Be Happy . In 2006, Eddie Marsan participated in the adaptation of the futuristic comic V for Vendetta and obtained small roles in the blockbusters Mission: Impossible 3 and Miami Vice – Two Cops in Miami but it was as a theater director in The Illusionist by Neil Burger that he returns to the front of the stage.
Subsequently, the actor distinguished himself by his interpretation of a hooked gangster in Hancock by Peter Berg before playing the role of Inspector Lestrade in Sherlock Holmes . Two years later, accustomed to villain roles, he played the kidnappers in The Disappearance of Alice Creed by J Blakeson . In 2011, he reprized his role as Lestrade in Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows .
If Eddie Marsan multiplies the supporting roles in very different genres ( London Boulevard , Snow White and the Huntsman , Garbage! or even Jack the Giant Slayer ), he nevertheless performs more important performances in several films, such as Tyranosaur , where he plays a tyrannical and very violent husband, and The Last Pub Before the End of the World , in which he plays Peter Page, who returns with his childhood friends to Newton Haven to complete the bar marathon that they had never managed to finish.
