BIOGRAPHY
Of Mexican origin, Edward James Olmos was born and raised in East Los Angeles. If he wanted to become a professional baseball player from an early age, it was music that he turned to first. Singer of the rock group Pacific Ocean , he performed for years in several clubs in LA and the surrounding area. At the same time, graduating in 1964 from Montebello High School , he attended the local university where he took his first acting lessons. He made his debut in the theater and appeared in the 1970s in the successful TV series of the time: Kojak , Starsky and Hutch , Hawaii State Police and CHiPs ! In 1978, he distinguished himself on Broadway with the musical show Zoot Suit , which earned him a Tony Award nomination. He will reprise this role in the film adaptation in 1981.

The general public best knows him for his role as police lieutenant Martin Castillo alongside Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the popular 80s series Two Cops in Miami . His performance allowed him to win a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award. Once the show ended, after 5 years of good and loyal service, Olmos turned to the big screen. In 1988, he received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Professor Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver . In 1991, he starred in his first feature film, Sans remission , about a former thug who sees his past catch up with him when he leaves prison. If there is no shortage of projects in the cinema – he opposite Jennifer Lopez in Selena – the small screen offers him much more interesting roles. He takes on the role of Captain Salazar in the miniseries Dead Man’s Walk , makes an appearance in At the White House and plays in Burning Season , The Judge and The Metro of Anxiety . In 2002, he became the patriarch of the Gonzalez family in American Family , the first series with an entirely Latin American cast, which remained on the air for two seasons.

Success was achieved again in 2003 with Battlestar Galactica , the remake of the 1970s science fiction series. He took up the role of Commander William Adama, previously played by Lorne Greene.. Military leader of the fleet transporting the last survivors of the human species, he has the heavy responsibility of ensuring their protection and finding them a new home, despite the threat of the Cylons. For four years, Ronald D. Moore , at the helm of the show, managed to keep the audience in suspense. Preparing for the end of Battlestar Galactica , Edward James Olmos returns to cinema by lending his voice to Diablo, the terrifying Doberman of the Beverly Hills Chihuahua .
