Burnett was born Erin Isabelle Burnett on July 2, 1976, in Mardela Springs, Maryland, where she was raised on a farm on the east coast of the Chesapeake Bay by her parents; Esther Margaret (née Stewart) and Kenneth King Burnett, corporate lawyer. Erin is the youngest daughter of her parents and has two older sisters, Mara and Laurie. Raised as a Catholic, Erin’s ethnicity has been attributed to Scotland and Ireland.
For her high school education, Erin left home and moved to Middletown, Delaware, where she attends a preparatory boarding school called “St. Andrew’s School”. She graduated in 1994. Erin then studied political science and economics at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy in 1998.
During her college years, Erin was an active athlete with a spot on the varsity lacrosse and field hockey teams. In her senior year, Erin was named a hockey player and earned second-team all-NESCAC convention honors.
Fresh out of college, Erin began her career with Goldman Sachs’ investment banking division as a financial analyst. She focused on mergers and acquisitions as well as corporate finance. In addition to the primetime show, Erin also hosts the weekly Erin Burnett OutFront International on CNN International. She is the chief business and economics correspondent for CNN International.
Some of the hot topics Erina covered for CNN include; the terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels. The seasoned presenter has published numerous reports on Middle East issues. His one-hour CNN documentary, “The Truth About Benghazi” included reporting on US national security issues as well as coverage of al-Qaeda’s development in North Africa.

When Erin switched ships to CNN, her contract was reportedly worth $2.5 million a year. The New York Post (now Page Six) revealed that his contract with CNN included a clause stipulating that his show must be broadcast during prime time.
So when new CNN CEO Jeff Zucker sought out in March 2013, Erin asked him for a massive buyout of over $2.5 million. After unsuccessful negotiations between herself and the new president, Erin stuck to her prime-time slot. His salary has grown exponentially over the years, and at the time of writing, it is up to $6 million.

Erin is married to Citigroup CEO David Rubulotta. They met on a blind date in 2003 and, after a long relationship, got engaged in September 2011. The couple waited over a year before getting married on December 21, 2012.
Rubulotta, before joining Citigroup, worked as a trader for the Lehman Brothers. On November 29, 2013, the couple welcomed their first number, a son they named Nyle Thomas Burnett Rubulotta. They then welcomed a daughter, Colby Isabelle, on July 18, 2015. Reports surfaced in March 2018 that Erin was expecting baby number 3.
