Evan Engram embraced the disciplined and hard-hitting life of American football since he was a high school kid. He put a tough end to the New York Giants in the National Football League, making him one of the lucky few to break through to professional success in their chosen field.

Before starting his professional career, he played college football for Ole Miss and was from the college that was drafted by the New York Giants as the 23rd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Evan Engram was born Evan Michael Engram on He attended Hillgrove High School in Georgia. After graduation, he joined Ole Miss, where he had a four-year career culminating in 162 receptions for 2,320 yards and averaging 14.3 yards. He also had 15 career touchdowns in addition to those stats.

Despite the great career he eventually had at Ole Miss, he almost didn’t get in. A young Evan Engram had needed a college scholarship to further pursue his dreams. He didn’t get an offer until he was invited to a camp to convince Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze to consider him for a scholarship.

Evan Engram worked really hard during the camp’s duration, managing to dominate every defender lined up opposite him. However, all his hard work seemed to fail when he was sent out of camp by the coach. Evan Engram returned to Georgia in tears, believing he would no longer have the opportunity to pursue his dreams. However, coach Freeze reconsidered and called the player back two days later to give him the scholarship he deserved.

Joining Ole Miss and the brilliant career that he had set Evan Engram on a sure path to the NFL. He was named a First-Team All-SEC in 2014 and 2016 and received a Senior Bowl invite in the final years of his collegiate career. He trained extremely well during Senior Bowl week and helped the South defeat the North by a 16-15 rating after making a catch for ten yards.

In 2017 he was part of the NFL ScoutingCombine, where he participated and performed every drill thrown at him. Ole Miss hosted a pro day in April 2017 where Evan Engram focused on positional practice. He has been projected as a first or second pick by NFL pundits. That same year, Sports Illustrated ranked Evan Engram as the second-best pick of the draft.

The expert draft projections paid off just as the New York Giants selected Evan Engram in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was selected as the second close end, 23rd overall after OJ Howard was selected 19th overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In June 2017, the New York Giants offered Evan Engram a four-year contract worth $10.71 million with a $5.93 million guaranteed signing bonus. The Giants seemed pretty happy with their selection of Evan Engram, who was actually the first close end they picked in the first round since Jeremy Shockey in 2002.

At the end of the 2017 regular season, he was called up to the tightest starting position by Giants head coach Larry Donnell. He made his season debut as a pro in a game the Giants played with the Dallas Cowboys. He suffered a rib injury in week 17 of the season but soon recovered and was back in the game.

Evan Engram’s father is Derick Engram and his mother’s name is Michelle Zelina. The two married in 1994 and gave birth to their son later that year.

Evan has a sister named Mackenzie Engram, who plays basketball at the University of Georgia in NCAA Division 1. The two were very competitive when they were younger, challenging each other in different sports and pushing each other to succeed.
