BIOGRAPHY
A music graduate from the University of Southern California then a drama student at the University of Berkeley, Forest Whitaker first cut his teeth in the flagship television series of the 70s and 80s: Arnold and Willy , Captain Furillo , and The Man Who Fallen . He took his first steps on the big screen in 1982 with a small role in Tag: The Assassination Game , and in the comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High , where he played opposite a young lead: Sean Penn .

It was in 1986 that he came to the attention of the general public, first in The Color of Money by Martin Scorsese , then by joining Vietnam and the Bravo company of Platoon by Oliver Stone . A Vietnam found a year later, this time more smiling, in Good morning Vietnam . Consecration came in 1988 for Whitaker, with Clint Eastwood ‘s Bird : his interpretation of jazz musician Charlie “Bird” Parker earned him the Interpretation Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Forest Whitaker’s physique, both imposing and lunar, which he owes to intensive practice of US football in his youth, allows him to alternate between muscular productions ( Blood sport , 1988; Blown away , 1994; Panic room , 2002 ; Phone game , id.) and deeper films, both dramatic (a British soldier prisoner of the IRA in The Crying Game , 1992), fantastic ( Body Snatchers , 1993; Battleground Earth , 2000), and downright unclassifiable (the melancholy and zen professional killer from Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai , 2000). A true jack of all trades, he participated in the celebrity parade of Robert Altman ‘s Prêt-à-porter (1994) as well as the crossover stories of Smoke (1995). The year 1995 marked Forest Whitaker’s move behind the camera with the comedy-drama Where Are the Men? , which notably saw him direct Whitney Houston . An experience that he tried again in 1998 for the drama Thus goes life , with Sandra Bullock , and in 2004 with the comedy Stars in Their Eyes , led by Katie Holmes . In 2005, he passed for the second time behind the camera of Abel Ferrara in Mary

. Two years later, Forest Whitaker starred in The Last King of Scotland in the role of the bloodthirsty General Idi Amin Dada. A breathtaking composition which earned him the Oscar for Best Actor and the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Film. 2008 seems to mark a return to supercharged and nervous cinema for the actor, starring in Angles of Attack and At the End of the Night , inspired by a screenplay written by the master of crime fiction James Ellroy .

In 2010, he co-starred with Jude Law in a science fiction film, Repo Men (by Miguel Sapochnik ), in a world where organs are commodities and give rise to the appearance of specialized gangs; before joining the cast of The Experiment (by Paul Scheuring ), an American remake of a German film that caused a sensation (Das Experiment, 2000), where a scientific experiment in voluntary confinement goes beyond anything expected.

Lullaby , The Fathers’ War , Without Compromise , Elite Units : the Oscar-winning actor multiplies the appearances, all favoring compositional roles, neglecting no offer. In 2013, he starred under the direction of Korean Kim Jee-woon in The Last Stand , an explosive action film led by the dean Arnold Schwarzenegger . The same year, he rubbed shoulders with the presidents of the United States, in The Butler , a fabulous journey through history directed by Lee Daniels , with a prestigious cast. In Cannes, he presents the violent Zulu by Frenchman Jérôme Salle , a dive into the streets of Cape Town, where he forms a police tandem with an Orlando Bloom in great form.

In 2014, we see him in The Path of the Enemy as an ex-prisoner persecuted by a vindictive sheriff played by Harvey Keitel . The same year, he starred in the musical Black Nativity . In pursuit of Liam Neeson in Taken 3 , boxing coach in The Rage in the Belly and confronted with alien ships in First Contact , Forest Whitaker is also chosen to join the casts of the highly anticipated Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (first spin -off of the famous intergalactic saga) and Marvel Black Panther (2018).
