BIOGRAPHY
It was at the age of nine that George MacKay took his first steps in the cinema. He plays the character Curly in The Adventures of Peter Pan by PJHogan (2003). And even if the filming takes place in Australia, he still benefits from on-site schooling. Three years later, it was in the fantastic children’s tale, The Thief of Venice , by Richard Claus , that he landed a small role alongside another budding actor, a certain Aaron-Taylor Johnson , then aged 15 years old.
But it is really in The Insurgents by Edward Zwick (2008) that he will take a giant step forward in the seventh art. He slips into the shoes of liaison officer Aron Bielski, youngest of the four Jewish Bielski brothers ( Daniel Craig , Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell ) famous for saving the lives of hundreds of Jews during the Second World War. Then, he continued to play roles in period films: Private Peaceful (2012) by Pat O’Connor , followed by Sunshine on Leith (2013) by Dexter Fleitcher , a director with whom he had already collaborated the previous year on the western Provenance .
In 2014, George MacKay starred in two feature films. He plays the lonely Eddie, one of the two teenagers in How I Live Now , where there is once again a question of armed struggle. And he’s also shipwrecked in Paul Wright ‘s tragic For Those in Peril . Multiplying his performances in the cinema, the young actor plays a petty criminal in Bypass (2014), the eldest son of Viggo Mortensen in Captain Fantastic (2016) or even a gang leader in True History of the Kelly Gang (2019). On the small screen side, George MacKay is one of the recurring characters in the series 11/22/63 , in which a teacher (James Franco) goes back in time to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy. In 2020, his notoriety increased when the war film 1917 by Sam Mendes was released, in which he had a central role.
