BIOGRAPHY
Little Gina Joy Carano, daughter of Dallas Cowboys American football team quarterback Glenn Thomas Carano, was quickly immersed in the world of high-level sport. No wonder she was named captain of her college basketball team, and played both volleyball and softball. In addition to all these activities, she managed to obtain a psychology degree. Her practice of martial arts began with Muay Thai, and she subsequently became, in 19 victories (for only 2 defeats), one of the best fighters in the Mixed Martial Arts category.
After a first appearance on television in a reality TV program in 2006, Gina made her first real foray into the world of cinema the following year with Blood and Bone . This film about clandestine fights puts her alongside the massive Michael Jai White , and tastes the experience of a real shoot. An experience that should not be repeated… But that was without counting on Steven Soderbergh , who decided in 2010 to hire her for his spy thriller, Trapped . The filmmaker thus takes her out of the simple combat film, and calls for a real acting performance from her alongside talented actors.
Her film career launched, Gina Carano joins the muscular cast of Fast & Furious 6 by engaging in an impressive fight with Michelle Rodriguez in the subway basements, then tastes the universe of Marvel superheroes via Deadpool played by Ryan Reynolds . She plays a villain with supernatural physical abilities alongside supervillain Ed Skrein .
In 2019, Jon Favreau introduced her to the Star Wars franchise by giving her the role of mercenary Cara Dune, the hero’s valuable ally in the series The Mandalorian . His character is so popular that a spin-off titled Rangers of the New Republic is in the works for the Disney+ platform. However, his popularity was quickly tainted by his outspokenness and positions considered transophobic and anti-Semitic. Exasperated, the company Lucasfilm Ltd. ended up terminating the actress’s contract in February 2021, aborting her current projects with Disney.
