Grace Jones is the third child of Robert W. Jones and Marjorie Williams and she was born into the family on May 19, 1948 in Spanish Town, Jamaica. Bishop Noel Joel and Chris Jones, his siblings (a total of six), are the most popular. Her father, Robert, participated in local politics and was also a preacher identifying with the apostolic denomination. His mother, on the other hand, was an athlete who had been barred from competing in an Olympic event due to her faith.
The couple left Jamaica and moved to the United States (without their children) in search of better opportunities. Meanwhile, Grace and her siblings stayed with their maternal grandmother and her strict disciplinarian husband. A Pentecostal, Jones began attending All Saints’ Pentecostal School, but soon after was removed and sent to a public school closer to home. She took over her mother’s sports activities and excelled as an athlete, although she was bullied because of her skinny figure at the time.
She (and her siblings) went to live in the United States, joined their parents when she was 13, and continued her education at Onondaga Community College. When she finally entered college, Grace Jones took acting and acting classes. By then, she had become rebellious at home and was doing whatever she wanted, including leaving home to live in another city – Philadelphia – where she had been involved in drugs.
Career
She was signed as a model by New York-based talent agency, Wilhelmina Models. Her selling point seemed foreign to the US modeling arena. In 1970, Grace Jones moved to Paris, France, where she felt more comfortable in the modeling industry. His early work on the runway was with high-end clients such as Claude Montana and Yves St. Laurent. She has also worked with Guy Bourdin, Hans Feurer and Helmut Newton while appearing on the cover pages of major magazines such as En Vogue, Stern and Elle.
She resumed her musical talents in 1974 and was signed to Island Records. His first album was released by the label three years later in 1977 and was titled ‘Portfolio’. This was followed by “Fame” which became a huge hit. However, the album that made her famous was the platinum and gold certified “Nightclubbing” released in 1981. And although other albums followed such as “Living My Life”, “Slave To The Rhythm”, “Inside Story”, etc Nightclub The album is still considered his best studio effort.
Not a fear of any adventure, she took on acting roles that went well. Jones made her debut with the 1973 film Gordon’s War where she played the role of Marie . She appeared in Conan the Destroyer (1984) as Zula the Amazon and Max Zorin’s henchman in the Agent 007 James Bond series A View of a Murder (1985) . His other screen efforts include Straight to Hell (1987), Cyber-Bandits (1995), Wolf Girl (2001), Nothing Better Than Home (2006), Gutterdämmerung (2016), etc.
