BIOGRAPHY
Guadalupe Gómez, also known as Guadalupe del Toro , was a creative woman who inspired and supported the career of her son, Guillermo del Todo, from the beginning. In her role as an actress, Gómez was an essential figure in understanding the way film is made in Mexico since the 1980s. She starred in Guillermo del Toro’s first amateur short film called Matilde . She later also starred in her first professional work: a short film called Doña Lupe (1986). Guadalupe Gómez played one of the most transgressive characters in the history of Mexican cinema: in 1985 she participated in the film Doña Herlinda y su Hijo , directed by the also deceased Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, and starring Marco Treviño and Arturo Meza, the story addresses frontally the homosexuality of Rodolfo, a young doctor, who has a relationship with Ramón, a music student.
