Gustaf Caspar Orm Skarsgård was born on November 12, 1980 in Stockholm, Sweden, into the family of Stellan and My Skarsgård. He has five siblings and two half-brothers by his father’s second wife, Megan Everett. Gustaf started acting at a very young age, appearing in the Swedish film Codename Rooster Rogue when he was just nine years old. From 1999 to 2003 Gustaf attended the Swedish National Academy of Mime and Drama, also known as Teaterhögskolan in Swedish. He then joined the Royal Dramatic Theater and while there he performed in many works of Shakespeare.

In 2003, Gustaf Skarsgård featured in the drama film, Mal, a film based on Jan Guillou’s novel of the same title. He also appeared in the Norwegian film, The Color of Milk in 2004.
