BIOGRAPHY
Harold Ramis has a degree in English literature from Washington University in St. Louis. However, it was as a nurse in a psychiatric clinic that he began working life, before becoming a teacher. At 25, Ramis joined the Chicago improvisation troupe Second City , which was a hit on the small screen. Very quickly noticed, he became a performer and author. In 1974, he wrote texts for the National Lampon Show , a wacky show hosted by his friends John Belushi and Gilda Radner .
In 1977, Ramis wrote the screenplay for American College . Beginning to really break through in Hollywood, he signed his first production, Caddyschack , in 1980, a crazy comedy led by Bill Murray and Chevy Chase . Subsequently, he collaborated regularly with Ivan Reitman , whom he found to write, produce or direct commercial successes such as Stop rowing, you’re on the sand , Les Bleus , and especially Ghostbusters (1984) and its sequel , Ghostbusters II (1989), in which he appears on screen as Doctor Spengler.
Because Harold Ramis is also a part-time actor, appearing in the credits of Baby Boom , opposite Diane Keaton , The Return of Billy Wyatt , For Worse or for Better or Around Lucy . But it was behind the camera that he achieved his biggest successes: My doubles, my wife and me (1996), Mafia blues (1999), Endiablé (2000) and especially the cult Un jour sans fin (1993) earned him the status of a true pillar of American comedy. However, he changed register for the first time in 2005 by directing the black comedy False Friends , starring John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton .
