Hayley Elizabeth Atwell was born on April 5, 1982 in London to an American photographer father – Grant Atwell, and her British mother – Alison Cain, who earns her living as a British motivational speaker. As a result, the talented actress has dual nationality from both the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Unfortunately, just when Hayley Atwell turned twoold, her parents parted ways, and her father moved back to the United States. She lived with her mother in London, where she grew up, and regularly visited her father in Missouri, his hometown. Her mother, who is very interested in theatre, gave her daughter Hayley the opportunity to learn about the world of theater at a very tender age, thus igniting the flames of acting in her.
Raised as an only child, she attended Sion-Manning Roman Catholic Girls’ School in West London, achieving excellent academic marks. She graduated from the London Oratory School. But because her grades were low, she was unable to secure a place at the prestigious Oxford University, where she was headed.

Hayley Atwell made her debut in theaters in 2005 when she was in the cast of Prometheus Bound (2005). Later that same year she appeared in a television series, Whatever Love Means (2005), where she played Sabrina Guinness on the series. She has also starred in subsequent theater productions such as Women Beware of Women (2006), The Pride (2013), Measure for Measure (2018).
Her first break came in 2006 The Line of Beauty (2006), a TV miniseries; although she had previously appeared in other TV shows such as Afraid of Danny (2006). And after her big break, she appeared in several other shows like The Convict (2009), Restless (2012), Agents of SHIELD (2014), Agent Carter (2015-2016), Unite Avengers (2017-2019), Howard’s End (2017), 3Below: The Tales of Arcadia (2018) and a variety of other television series.
As she transitioned into her film career, she carved a niche for herself in the film industry with a handful of feature films. Her first film role was in Cassandra’s Dream (2007) where she played the role of Angela Stark. She then followed it up with How About You (2007), where she portrayed the character Ellie Harris.
