BIOGRAPHY
Helena Zengel made her first steps in front of a camera at the age of five in a music video for the Berlin alternative rock band Abby. She then appears in the series Spreewaldkrimi, then in the film Die Tochter, where she plays a little girl trying to sow discord among her parents. She also participates in the series Die Spezialisten – Im Namen der Opfer as well as in the thriller Der gute Bulle, broadcast on television.
Helena Zengel’s career took a decisive turn when she was chosen to play the main character in the drama Benni by Nora Fingscheidt . Released in June 2020, the film tells the story of a little girl with behavioral disorders. Powerful, visceral and touching, the actress reveals herself. She received numerous distinctions, including the Deutsche Filmpreis, the equivalent of the Césars in Germany.
It was thanks to this performance that Paul Greengrass , director of the last three Jason Bourne films with Matt Damon , turned to her to play in The Mission . In this western broadcast on Netflix, the young Berliner plays Johanna, a child who speaks little and who must express her emotions through her face. In the company of Tom Hanks , she embarks on a journey strewn with pitfalls across the American West.
This striking character earned her the opportunity to compete at the 2021 Golden Globes in the Best Supporting Actress category.
