Ian MichaelKinsler was born in Tucson, Arizona on January 22-June 1982. He was raised as a Jew because of his Jewish father, Howard Kinsler. Ian was a major influence on Howard, who had previously played basketball at the University of Arizona and had also served as a prison guard in the state. At an early age, his father began coaching him in sports and was a strict trainer. Ian remembers being 13 and his dad giving him and his teammates some instructions that were in the PONY league and preparing for a championship. Ian then rolled his eyes, causing his dad to scrap him for the next game. He admits it made him humble.

In terms of education, Ian Kinsler was enrolled in Canyon del Oro High School located in the suburb of Tucson in Oro Valley, Arizona. In school, between 1997 and 2000, he helped the baseball team win the title. As a senior, he earned second-team league honors with a .380 touchdown, as well as a .504 hitting with five homers, and 26 stolen bases.

College career
