For these comments, he was let down by his editors and lost the chance to speak at an American conservative conference. However, he refused to apologise, insisting the comments were about his personal experience. When he was severely reprimanded, he came out and made it clear that he would never apologize for using humor to deal with his life experiences. He clarified that no one has the right to tell himself or any victim of sexual abuse how to deal with what they have been through. Nonetheless, he asked other victims of abuse for the pardon of his remarks if they found it offensive.
