Jacoby Ellsbury Bio and Age

He was born Jacoby McCabe Ellsbury on September 11, 1983, in Madras, Oregon. He was raised there by his parents, Margie and Jim Ellsbury, alongside three other siblings. Although her mother is Native American, her father has English and German blood.

Ever since he was young, Jacoby had always been close to the baseball game, he instantly became something of a star with his skills the moment he got to Madras High School. What made him even more interesting was that he also had football and basketball skills.

The first offer for Jacoby who was very shy even though highly skilled and hardworking, came from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but he rejected it and instead played for Oregon State University, which he had seen during the 2015 College World Series.

In 2005, Jacoby drafted and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, and he soon began his career in the New York-Penn Class A-Short Season League, where he played for the Lowell Spinners. He played with the Carolina Class A-Advanced league for Wilmington Blue Rocks. He would qualify for the Pawtucket Red Sox in the Class AAA international league before he could make his major league appearance.

Ellsbury began his freshman year in MLB playing for the Boston Red Sox before playing for the New York Yankees in 2014. In his first season with the Red Sox, the center fielder won the World Series Championship. He would win it again in 2013, his last season with the team. More so, he also won the Gold Glove Award, Silver Slugger Award, and AL Comeback Player of the Year, while making the All-Star Team in 2011. He was also the base leader stolen from AL between 2008 and 2013.

His move to the New York Yankees in 2013 was completed at a cost of $153 million although it could reach $169 million if instead of 7 years he stays with the team for 8 years. In 2018, he reportedly had a hip problem that wouldn’t allow him to play for long.

Family, wife and daughter

Jacoby Ellsbury grew up in a close-knit Mormon family. He has three brothers, Spencer Ellsbury, Tyler Ellsbury and Matt Ellsbury, Jacoby being the eldest of them.

Looking at his relationships, the Yankees center defensive player is married to Kelsey Hawkins. Before the pair married in 2012, Kelsey, who is also from Oregon, had been together for six years and had been together since 2006.

Just like her husband, Kelsey Hawkins attended Oregon State University and it was there that they first met. Apart from her, no female baseball player has ever been met in the past.

So far, the union has been blessed with two children: a daughter born in 2015 and their second child in 2017.

Net value

With several years of great success especially with the Red Sox, Jacob Ellsbury has obviously done well. With a salary of over $21 million since 2015, it’s no wonder he’s able to make an estimated fortune of $40 million.

The main source of his wealth comes from his contract worth $153 million, which earns him an exorbitant salary. Nevertheless, he has also benefited from a number of endorsement deals made with Nike in particular.

The Yankees’ star player has a good build which has added to his strength, complementing his skills as an outfielder. It’s one of the main things that helped him in MLB. In numbers, Jacoby Ellsbury has a height of 1.85m and a weight of 84kg.
