BIOGRAPHY
Born in California, Jake McLaughlin grew up in a middle-class American family. He is a turbulent child and known for his truancy, which results in numerous school changes before he graduates. At the age of twenty, he enlisted in the ranks of the army, which he found himself obliged to leave after four years of service following a serious injury. After being awarded several medals to reward his heroic efforts, the young man left the military barracks for good and retrained as a crab fisherman in Oregon. Later, Universal hired him as a security guard for almost a year before he ran out of money. It was during this period, at the moment in his life when he was most deprived, that he heard about the casting that director Paul Haggis was conducting for his thriller In the Valley of Elah . He auditioned and got the role thanks to the similarities he shares with his character in the film, a corporal in the United States Army.
His remarkable performance in the feature film served as a springboard and allowed him to make short appearances on the small screen, notably in Heroes , Grey’s Anatomy and Mentalist . He then joined the second season of the television remake of the drama Collision , where he played Bo Olinville, a former high school baseball prodigy now working in his mother’s store. From 2011, his film career continued modestly with secondary characters alongside Hollywood bigwigs in the films Warrior by Gavin O’Connor , Close Security by Daniel Espinosa and Savages by Oliver Stone . It was in 2014 that Alfonso Cuaron noticed him and offered him the main role in his series Believe . He plays Tate, a convict whose task is to protect Bo, a little girl with astonishing powers. Despite a promising start, the show’s audiences continued to decline and pushed NBC to request its cancellation at the end of the first season.
This bad news does not discourage the young actor and allows him to apply successfully to ABC to join the cast of Quantico in the guise of Ryan Booth, an FBI agent too close to the young recruit played by the beautiful Priyanka Chopra .
