American television host and comedian, James Christian Kimmel aka Jimmy Kimmel has an enviable career, to say the least. His interest in radio and television began in high school, when he hosted shows on school radio.

He moved to television in 1997 and got his first comedian on the Comedy Central game show “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” Just before the turn of the millennium, Kimmel snagged the Daytime Emmy Award for Host of This Outstanding Game.

After producing a few shows on ComedyCentral, Jimmy left to join ABC where he focused on his new self-titled show which would bring him international recognition. Today, Kimmel is known for hosting numerous awards ranging from Emmys to Oscars.

Jimmy Kimmel family: wife, baby, son

Jimmy Kimmel has been married twice. His first marriage was to Gina Maddy in 1988. It lasted until 2002 when the divorce took place. The union produced two children; Kevin and Katherine.

After a long-term relationship with fellow comedian Sarah Silverman that lasted from 2002 to 2009, Kimmel began dating her show’s co-writer Molly McNearney. They got engaged in August 2012 and tied the knot about a year later in July 2013.

The couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Jane, on July 10, 2014. Their son, William “Billy” John, arrived on April 21, 2017.

Unfortunately, the baby was born with a rare heart condition known as tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) with pulmonary atresia. Detected three hours after birth due to the appearance of a purplish coloring, Kimmel’s son had to undergo surgery.

Luckily, his comedic talents were well linked with the coveted 18-49 year old and as a result his rating rose, thereby inflating his salary. Kimmel used social media to her advantage by posting snippets of her show’s segments on her YouTube channel, which quickly garnered more than 4.5 billion views.

Her success on her eponymous show attracted other hosting and non-hosting gigs. He has hosted the American Music Awards for five consecutive years. These extra gigs help boost Jim’s income.

Kimmel also gained a reputation as a voice actor, lending his voice to a number of animated characters. Some of his animated films include; Road Trip (2000), Garfield: The Movie (2004) and The Boss Baby (2017).

Weightloss

Jimmy Kimmel used to be a big guy, fans of his Jimmy Kimmel Live! which premiered in 2003 would still have images of a fat Jim in their heads. However, in 2010, when he had weighed in at 208 pounds, he decided to do something about it.

Kimmel adopted a bizarre diet plan called 5:2. What does that mean? Well, the 5:2 diet means that Jim must fast two days a week (he chooses Monday and Thursday) when he eats very little food – no more than 500 calories.

Lunch on both days can include apple and peanut butter, sometimes egg whites, and when he can’t seem to control his hunger, an oatmeal dish.

Here’s the good part: For the other five days, Jim, in his words, “eats like a pig,” whether it’s steak, pasta, or even pizza. Although renowned doctors like DR Oz have expressed skepticism about the diet, it worked for Kimmel who has lost at least 25 pounds and even looks muscular despite not exercising much.

Kimmel now weighs around 182 pounds.
