BIOGRAPHY
An English graduate at the University of Wisconsin, Joan Cusack spent a large part of her adolescence on stage, within an improvisation theater company. This early taste for comedy allowed her to quickly debut on the big screen: at sixteen, she appeared in the credits of My Bodyguard , alongside Matt Dillon .

Two appearances alongside his brother John ( Class , 1983; Sixteen Candles , 1984) then a stint on the television program Saturday Night Live gave him the beginnings of notoriety. The actress gradually established herself in roles as an eccentric woman with Broadcast News (1987), Widow but not too much (1988) and especially Working Girl (id.), which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporter female role.

The 90s saw Joan Cusack clearly favor the comic register and establish herself as a renowned supporting role in American cinema. She is in turn the crazy sister of Robin Williams ( Toys , 1992), an evil nurse ( The Addams Family Values , 1993), faces her husband’s doubts about her upcoming paternity ( Nine Months Too , 1995) , realizes that her fiancĂ© ( Kevin Kline ) is homosexual ( In & out , 1997, new Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress) and plays Julia Roberts ‘ best friend ( Just married (or almost) , 1999).

With credibility acquired on the Broadway stages, Joan Cusack sometimes distances herself from comedy ( Arlington Road , 1999) but systematically returns to it. Rock’n’roll with Jack Black in High Fidelity (2000) and Rock Academy (2003), she then tried her hand at animation in Looney Tunes Take Action (2003) and Chicken Little (2005). After appearing in the credits of Fashion Maman (2004) and the dark comedy Friends With Money (2005), Joan Cusack appeared in Confessions of a Shopaholic in 2009 .
