In the world of sport, there is no good game without a good coach. And when it comes to coaching, especially basketball, a few names burst into the Hall of Fame. Among them, John Calipari, he is undeniably one of the best.

The Hall of Famer has a long list of accomplishments and honors to his name. To name a few, he was the Basketball Times Coach of the Year twice (1996, 2015) and the NABC Coach of the Year three times (1996, 2009, 2015). Coach Cal would agree, however, that his greatest accomplishment is helping men who aspire to be professional basketball players enter the NBA Draft. While only a few coaches could boast two No. 1 picks in the NBA, Cal has produced as many as four No. 1 picks overall.

John Calipari Age and Early Life

John Calipari is the famous head coach of the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He was born on February 10, 1959 into a family of five in Moon Township, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His parents, Vince Calipari and Donna Calipari, have two other children. Terri Calipari and Lea Calipari.

The basketball coach would be of Italian descent. He graduated from Moon Area High School in 1978; It was there that he received his education and his first shot at basketball. He went on to earn a degree in marketing from Clarion State College. In college, he played for the Clarion State Eagles.

John wanted to excel in life. He once bought a trailer and rented it to save money for his school fees. He would often write down motivational quotes and stick them on his dorm wall. Thankfully, all that encouraging talk and resilience eventually paid off.

This trainer is the author of about five books. One of his books titled “Players First: Coaching From the Inside” became a New York Times bestseller.

His net worth

Coach Calipari has a fortune of over $15million. His first salary as a coach in 2000 was $1,490,000, which has increased over the years. He currently boasts of an amazing salary of $7.14 million.

John owns a wide range of properties and assets. In 2000, he bought a 6,918-square-foot house with five bedrooms, an outdoor tennis and basketball court in Memphis, Tennessee, for a price he sold for twice as much in 2009. He has a foundation called ‘The Calipari Foundation’ involved in raising funds to help the less privileged in all parts of the country. In 2010, the foundation made donations to help earthquake victims in Haiti. The victims of Hurricane Sandy also benefited from the benevolence of the Calipari Foundation.

Coach Cal’s Family – Wife, Son & Daughter

John Calipari has an interesting family. Ellen Calipari, his wife, is a skilled carpenter. She fits perfectly into a profession that most people would consider masculine. She can make anything out of wood. Just name it; tables, chairs, coffee tables, bookcases, desks, cabinets, etc.

Ellen is an adorable combo of strength, beauty, and sophistication. The couple met in Kansas when John was just an assistant basketball coach while Ellen worked as a secretary. They got married 3 years later on June 22, 1986. The couple have three beautiful children; Megan Rae, Erin Sue and Bradley Vincent – the famous basketball player who also plays for the Kentucky Wildcats. It’s true! Brad Calipari is his son. Surprised? It’s only natural for a feral cat to breed one.

The basketball player was raised in Lexington, Kentucky. He attended MacDuffie High School where he majored in pre-marketing. He is also known for his mastery of the sport. What can we say? He just took after the old man.

Body height and features

John is very handsome even at his age, the horoscope reveals that he is Aquarius. The trainer stands tall at a height of 6ft 2in or 1.88m. This is no surprise, as most basketball personnel are known for their ability to dominate people with their insane physique. This explains why they can bounce and throw a ball into such a high loop. Coach Calipari has brown eyes. Her hair color is what we would like to call “salt and pepper”.
